The goalscorer gives his review of the draw at Mestalla
Diego López scored Valencia CF's first goal of the season, against Real Sociedad at Mestalla. He talked to VCF Media after the final whistle.
A tough game
It was a tough game because of the temperature, the pitch, and especially because of our opponents, Real Sociedad. They played a very good, serious game and made things very difficult for us. We have to take the point and turn it into four when we go to Pamplona next weekend.
A point to start the season
We struggled, especially in the first half, to extend our attacks, and didn't create much. It's a pity that they equalised quickly when we took the lead. If we had held on a little longer, we would have had more space to find the second goal, but the opposition also play their role, and we have to value the point.
The temperature
It was clear that both teams were broken up. It wasn't a matter of positioning, but of fatigue from the game. The substitutions gave us the balance we needed. We have a very good team; we have to keep working and improving. The momentum is good, and we have to keep going.
Mestalla
We know that when this stadium is spurring the team on forcefully, which it always is, it lifts us and helps us. It's a pleasure to see -not just the Curva Nord but the entire stadium- giving us so much.
His goal
I'm happy about the goal. It's one more for my tally. I wish it had helped us take all three points from the game, but it gives us a point, which is also good. Hopefully many more will come for me whilst wearing this shirt.
